A 28-year-old considered the author of the crime was stopped by the police shooting which led to the death of the 81-year-old woman hit by a stray bullet in Villaggio Prenestino (Rome). The young man, a certain Dante Spinelli, belongs to a family of Sinti origin, and was identified after careful investigative work which lasted less than 24 hours.

What do we know about the arrested man

According to news agencies, Dante Spinelli he was reached by the men of the homicide section of the flying squad during the afternoon of today, Friday 24 May. The District Anti-Mafia Directorate has issued a circumstantial detention order against him on charges of homocide. The 28-year-old, in fact, would be the alleged killer who yesterday evening, Thursday 23 May, shot and took the life of the elderly woman who was traveling in a Smart car in Ponte di Nona, near the supermarket Unique. This morning the news arrived that the lady, who was rushed to the emergency room of the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome and then transferred to Tor Vergata, died during the night due to her injuries.

According to the latest information, Dante Spinelli belongs to one Sinti family of the Rancitelli neighborhood of Pescara, very present in Rome. The family group resides in Villaggio Falcone, where it occupies some public housing in via Capitini.

The investigations

Investigators are still working to try to reconstruct the dynamics of what happened. Apparently there would be some surveillance cameras present on site which would have allowed investigators to extrapolate various images of the shooting happened along the road. The 81-year-old was traveling in the Smart with a friend when the car was flanked by two cars, engaged in a furious chase. At a certain point some shots exploded pistol. The old woman, therefore, would have been a collateral victim. During the investigations, investigators found and seized 5 380 caliber car shells.

According to the DDA, which is coordinating the investigations, the lady would have actually found herself involved in a clash between criminal gangs, linked to Sinti families, who were fighting for control of the territory. The reason for the dispute would be the dominance of drug dealing in the streets.
