Two associations collaborating to participate together in a regional tender is not a trivial thing. Two Genoese entities that put the well-being of the patient before any protagonism.

That’s what happened when Alzheimer Liguria and the Ligurian delegation of the Order of Malta participated in the tender announced by the Liguria Region for Alzheimer’s and dementia.

To participate, the Order of Malta and Alzheimer Liguria have combined their skills to provide the extensive documentation required by the announcement. Since April 2023, the Order of Malta has organized 3 cycles of Cognitive Stimulation for groups of patients at the beginning of the disease and two maintenance cycles for those who had already participated in the first activities. They were guests of the premises of the Alzheimer Liguria association in Via Cesarea.

The Alzheimer Liguria association provided home care for 900 hours to patients who were further along in the disease, offering relief to caregivers and valuable assistance to patients.

Thanks to an understanding built over the years between the former president of Alzheimer Liguria Giampaolo Cassinari and the deputy delegate of the Order of Malta Laure de Tonquedec, it has allowed them to collaborate effectively to provide quality care to patients. This collaboration now continues thanks to the new president of the Alzheimer Liguria Association Alessandro Brenna.

Now that the regional tender has ended and there is no longer public funding for these activities which have brought great relief to the patients and their families. Nonetheless, the two associations have decided to continue collaborating to offer the same service, convinced that the sick cannot be left to their own devices. A cycle of Cognitive Stimulation began on May 20th, proposed by the Order of Malta in the premises of the Alzheimer Liguria association, and the same will continue in home care for families who need help to deal with the illness of their relatives “with the strength of not being alone”.
