Climate, Floridia (Avs): Didn’t Zaia expect a flood? I invite him to change course

Rome, 21 May – “I find the statement of the President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia unacceptable” according to which ‘we could not expect a flood of this magnitude in mid-May’, exactly one year after the flood in Emilia-Romagna, “even more so since 2012 in Veneto, the region I come from, an emergency has been declared every year due to an extreme climatic event and it is also the sixth region most affected in Italy by extreme events such as rain and storms. I consider this statement of his truly unacceptable and instead invite him to quickly change course in adopting all those measures aimed at combating the climate crisis”. Thus Aurora Floridia, senator of Avs, who a few weeks ago presented a framework bill on the climate which acts on adaptation and mitigation: “In this regard I also appeal to my fellow senators and to the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa , so that this framework law on the climate, which is currently based in the eighth commission, can be discussed because it represents a real change of direction in approaching this topic which means having strong governance, a prevention approach and also management of these climatic events that are now commonplace and are no longer extreme”.
