One dead and several injured, around 30, after severe turbulence involving a Singapore Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Singapore. This is the outcome of the accident involving a Boeing 777-300ER, which was then forced to land in Bangkok. Sky News reports it.
Severe turbulence during flight
In a statement released after the incident, Singapore Airlines confirmed that flight SQ321, operating from London Heathrow to Singapore, faced severe turbulence during the flight. “We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on the flight,” it was reported. “Singapore Airlines extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the airline further underlined.
The flight landed in Bangkok
The plane, as mentioned, was diverted to Thailand and landed at 3.45pm local time. Singapore Airlines then explained that it is “working with local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance” and that it is sending a team to Bangkok to provide further assistance. “Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft,” he added. Singapore’s Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said the government would also provide assistance to passengers and their families. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the accident on board Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London Heathrow to Singapore,” he wrote on social media. Meanwhile, the Thai authorities have sent ambulances and emergency teams to Suvarnabhumi airport.
