Lazio, Gosens from Union Berlin is close | Transfer market

The new Lazio is whizzing by. While the “old” team is preparing to live the last 180 minutes of the championship (tomorrow at San Siro with Inter, then next week with Sassuolo at the Olimpico), next season’s team is starting to take shape. Sports director Fabiani had the opportunity to underline that there won’t be a revolution in the summer, but there will in any case be a lot of changes. The first, in order of time, will come from Germany. In fact, the operation to bring Robin Gosens, the former Inter and Atalanta winger who has been playing in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin since this year, is very close to a happy epilogue.

Negotiation

The German player returned to his homeland last summer after six seasons spent in Italy, four and a half with Atalanta, one and a half with Inter. The settlement in the Bundesliga did not have any problems, but as the months passed, the desire to return to Italy prevailed in him. A decision that attracted the attention of our clubs, two in particular, Bologna and Lazio. Lotito’s club, however, is the one that has dived into this deal with greater conviction, to the point that negotiations to bring the player to Formello are in the home stretch. Contacts with his entourage have been very frequent in recent weeks and have led to a hypothesis of agreement which seems to have received the assent of the winger. At Union Gosens has a salary of around 3 million which would essentially be confirmed to him, bonuses included. There will then be negotiations with his club, which has already assured Gosens that it intends to respect his wish to return to Italy. Last summer the German club paid Inter just over 13 million euros to secure his contract. He could now settle for a lower figure, but not by much. The investment that Lazio will have to make is therefore between 10 and 12 million. However, the Union could accept the formula of a onerous loan with compulsory redemption.

Expert

The arrival of Gosens would allow Lazio to fill a gap that has been dragging on for some time: the absence of a strong left side. A void that the arrival of Luca Pellegrini failed to fill. Even more so now that, with the advent of Tudor, there is a need for an all-round winger. Marusic is playing in that position at the moment, but he is much better in the opposite lane. And he would return there next season with the purchase of Gosens for the left-handed wing. The German will turn 30 on July 5. He is not very young, but he is still at a stage of his career in which he can still give a lot. He has no shortage of experience, as does his knowledge of Italian football, which is the real added value of any potential purchase of him. He would have no problems settling in and could play straight away. His characteristics are known. Tireless and also technical, he also manages to guarantee a fair number of goals. This season he has scored 7 (6 in the Bundesliga and 1 in the Champions League). In the four and a half years he played with Atalanta he scored a total of 29. However, he scored 5 goals with Inter in a year and a half. In Tudor’s Lazio he could continue with good habits.
