After the death of a motorcyclist in Palermo, perhaps killed by a pothole on the asphalt, the son points the finger at the mayor: “It’s his fault.” Lagalla’s intervention.

In Palermo, an accident along the ring road in Viale Regione Siciliana caused the death of Samuele Fuschi, 39 years old, married and father of four children. He would have been killed by a pothole on the asphalt. His scooter, Honda Sh 300, overturned. Municipal police officers intervened on site for the ritual investigations.

The victim’s eldest son, Alessio, commented at the scene of what happened: “I wanted to say thank you to the mayor, because it’s only his fault that my father died. There are huge potholes and he lost his life in them. Now we cry for him, all home and family. He was proud of his children, an exceptional man and those who knew him can confirm this. Now we demand justice. My father was proud of me, I only gave him joy, never sorrow. I am 18 years old and I am the eldest child, the only boy. My little sister is only 4 months old and from now on I will be her father.” And Samuele Fuschi’s father-in-law, Salvatore Santoro, added: “You can’t die like this, from a hole. Samuele received a small allowance and did simple jobs to make ends meet because you can’t live on a grant alone. We are destroyed. A destroyed family. My daughter is 34 years old and she has a little girl who is still breastfeeding. How will they survive now?”.

The mayor cited in the case, Roberto Lagalla, intervened immediately and explained: “According to the first findings carried out by the municipal police, it appears clear that it was a collapse of the asphalt which occurred at the same time or a few moments before the accident which caused caused the death of the motorcyclist, for whom my condolences and my closeness and that of the administration go out to the family. No emergency response reports were received. It is impossible that a pothole of this kind, along the busiest artery of the city, had not been reported, as has already happened with other potholes in Viale Regione Siciliana, which were then repaired. We are aware of the delays to be made up and we do not shy away. Let’s just say that having got the accounts back on track allows us today to continue the works both day and night. The patching activity is also very intense and proceeds day after day, but it is not possible to get everywhere at the same time” – concluded the mayor of Palermo.

The Municipality has just been condemned to pay 40,000 euros in compensation for the fall of a woman caused by the poor pavement. On November 15, 2019, she, 70 years old, tripped in via Terrasanta, fractured her wrist and suffered a serious facial hematoma when she hit a tree. For several months she faced consequences in her right eye. I filed a complaint. She was compensated after five years.
