More and more empty churches in Fvg.
Vocations are collapsing, but the faithful are also collapsing: in Friuli Venezia Giulia the churches are increasingly empty. And the percentage of those who frequent places of worshipo it is the lowest in the North East and decidedly below the Italian average.
This is certified by Istat data relating to aspects of daily life: if in Italy, people aged six and over who they attend a place of worship at least once a year they were 17.9% in 2023, in in our region the percentage drops to 13.1 while that of the North East stands at 14.4.
Only Bolzano scores a lower figure, i.e. 12.2%. Throughout Italy, in addition to the autonomous province, there is only Tuscany registers greater disaffection to churches, with 12.1% of people having attended a place of worship at least once (Istat does not make specific reference to Catholicism). On the other hand, 35.8% of Friulians have never gone to church in the last year (but the average in the North East is higher, 37.1%).
A move away from religious practice that has continued for years: in 2022, in Fvg, the percentages were 15.4 for those who attended at least once a place of worship, and 36.6% that of those who have never been there. Going back in time, in 2013, ten years ago, the Friulians who went to church at least once in 12 months they were 21.9% (average North East 27.2); on the contrary, 29.6% of citizens had completely abandoned attendance at any place of worship, representing approximately one in three people.
Twenty years ago, in 2003, almost one in five Friulians still attended mass (24.6%). These data underline a significant change in religious habits of the population of Friuli Venezia Giulia, reflecting a trend towards secularization and a decrease in traditional religious practice.
