The boxer killed in the ring in his first pro fight

Sherif Lawal was 29 years old, he was knocked out against the Portuguese Varela and never regained consciousness

ROME – Sherif Lawal went down afterwards having received a blow to the temple from his opponent, the Portuguese Malam Varela. It was his first fight as a professional boxer, middleweight category. He died like this, in the ring at the Harrow Leisure Center in London. She was 29 years old.

Referee Lee Every started the count for the knockout of the British boxer, but stopped when he realized the gravity of the situation. Doctors entered the ring and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 10 minutes before transporting him to Northwick Park Hospital, where they certified the boxer’s death.

Tyson Fury commented: “When you enter this world, you know it’s a dangerous sport. You go there and they pay you to blank out your brain. We are there to inflict damage on each other by hitting each other in the head and body… Unfortunately, things like this happen from time to time, we all know what we are getting into. It’s like someone jumping with a parachute, every now and then the parachute doesn’t open. That doesn’t stop everyone from skydiving. I’ve always known the risks. It is what it is. If it’s my time and it’s God’s will, then I will die.”
