GENOA -“I said everything, I answered. I think I deserve freedom”, reports the port entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli, 84 years old (top left), at the end of the guarantee interrogation which lasted over an hour in front of the investigating judge Paola Faggioni on the third floor of the Court of Genoa, confirming, as her son Roberto had done a few hours earlier (photo on the right above while escaping the reporters from an exit of service), to have answered the investigators’ questions.

Aldo and Roberto Spinelli are the first suspects to make statements during the interrogation for the major investigation into corruption which broke out on 7 May after four years of investigations by the financial police and which beheaded the Liguria region with the arrest of President Giovanni Toti under house arrest.

Two other defendants also remained silent: the now resigning Esselunga councilor Francesco Moncada, defended by the former minister Paola Severino (photo bottom left), and the president of Ente Bacini and Santa Barbara port services Mauro Vianello (photo bottom right).

Moncada’s lawyer then released a note which reads: “My client has always acted legally and in absolute transparency. As can be seen from the text of the wiretaps, he has always expressed his desire to act ‘in the light of day’ and has denied having entered into an illicit agreement”. “As for the technical and bureaucratic aspects of the Sestri shop practice – continues the note – he underlined that it had a very long and complex process, started at municipal level way back in August 2010, which passed through favorable sentences from the TAR and the Council of State, and finally reached the phase of the first services conference in recent days.
On the other hand, the Savona practice did not require any regional passage”.

“Moncada also specified – continues the lawyer’s note – that the contract with Società Programmazioni Televisive SpA, it has nothing to do with the complaints, which concern exclusively the television programming and not the advertising of Terrazza Colombo”.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be a guarantee interrogation for the two Testa brothers, Arturo Angelo and Maurizio, now former exponents of Forza Italia in Lombardy (they were suspended on May 7). The two are accused of electoral corruption, aggravated by the aim of having facilitated Cosa Nostra, both are subjected to the obligation to reside in the Municipality of Boltiere (Bergamo). At the regional elections in Liguria on 20 and 21 September 2020, they would have promised jobs to channel the votes of voters belonging to the Riesi community of Genoa and in any case Sicilians towards the ‘Let’s change with Toti President’ list and towards the candidate Stefano Anzalone (who is under investigation but not affected by ‘measures’).
