Gas leak leads to fire: damage to homes

The firefighters of the Catanzaro Command intervened in Settingiano for a fire following a methane gas leak from the pipes of the underground distribution network. During maintenance work – the firefighters report – a gas leak, finding the trigger, gave rise to flames near homes. The intervention of the firefighters – who arrived on site with ten units and three vehicles – was able to keep the column of fire under control, preventing the flames from spreading to the adjacent homes and waiting for the Italgas technical staff to take action. to intercept the leak.

The high temperatures developed caused damage to the external structures of the homes. Access to the affected apartments is prohibited as a precaution pending further technical-instrumental checks and the restoration of normal safety conditions. Once the leak was intercepted, the flames were completely extinguished which fortunately did not cause any damage to anyone. The mayor of Settingiano, local police and carabinieri as far as they are responsible are on site.
