The autopsies on the first three bodies of the workers killed in the Casteldaccia sewage tank confirmed death by asphyxiation. What killed was hydrogen sulphide, the killer gas released from the slime accumulated in the tank of the Amap plant in Via Nazionale. Yesterday morning at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Polyclinic, scientific examinations began on the bodies of Epifanio Alsazia, 71 years old, a partner of the Quadrifoglio Group company from Partinico which had subcontracted the work, the worker Ignazio Giordano, 57 years old from Partinico , Giuseppe La Barbera, 29 years old, temporary worker for Amap originally from the Albergheria and resident in Villabate with his wife and two young children.
The Termini Imerese prosecutor Elvira Cuti, who coordinates the investigation with the prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio with the hypothesis of the crime of multiple manslaughter, has entrusted the medico-legal investigations to four doctors from the university structure: Stefania Zerbo, Ginevra Malta, Erika Serena Sorrentino and Tommaso D’Anna, who today will examine the bodies of Giuseppe Miraglia, 47 years old, from San Cipirello, and Roberto Raneri, fifty-one years old from Alcamo.
On Wednesday, after having informed the families of the victims of the autopsies, the name of Nicolò Di Salvo, partner and co-owner, with Alsazia, of Quadrifoglio was entered in the register of suspects: the hypothesis of multiple manslaughter was formulated for him, with the aggravating circumstance of violation of accident prevention regulations, and of very serious negligent personal injury to Domenico Viola, 63 years old, who is still fighting between life and death at the Polyclinic. Other people could be investigated in the next few hours.
