Minister Andrea Abodi’s meeting took place today with the sports leagues regarding the government agency, which would control the clubs’ accounts.
Abodi: «Satisfied with the meeting, we want to proceed in full respect of the autonomy of sport»
Following the meeting, the minister stated:
«I am satisfied with the meeting, during which all parties expressed their opinions and points of view. The text, forwarded to the Football Federation on Friday morning, represented a working hypothesis and as such was supposed to serve to open that discussion which today found a point of failure and not a definitive document for approval. The meeting was an opportunity to explain the reasons that led us to imagine the establishment of this new Authority – technical and independent – and to proceed in full respect of the autonomy of sport, which has always been among my priorities together with transparency, respect and fair competition. I listened and gathered the position and suggestions of all the members at the table. We will now proceed with the appropriate assessments, before bringing the decree-law to one of the next Council of Ministers».
The president of the Lega Serie A, Casini, also spoke after the meeting
«The Serie A League remains against the government agency, which is an interference by politics and the risks of interference are always negative. But Minister Abodi gave time to discuss the corrective measures».
«He told us that the rule will be changed and gave us time to talk about it and propose some adjustments. We as the League will talk about it in the assembly on May 15th. Dialogues are underway with UEFA and FIFA, but that is the task of the federal president».
