The Pedemontana Ciclovia wins the cycle tourism Oscar

The Pedemontana Ciclovia triumphs at the Green Road Awards.

The ninth edition of Green Road Award, the Italian Cycle Tourism Oscar saw Friuli Venezia Giulia triumph thanks to its Pedemontana cycle path. This prestigious award is awarded annually to green cycle paths in the Italian regions that promote holidays on two wheels with services aimed at slow tourism.

Second place went to Calabria Region with the Val di Neto cycle path, while the third prize was awarded to the Autonomous Province of Trento for the Green Road dei Fiori. The jury also gave a special mention to the Apennines Bike Tour presented by the Liguria Region and the Legambiente mention went to the Sardinia Region for the Santa Barbara Mining Route. Finally, the Special Press Mention was awarded to the Campania Region for La Via Silente.

The Green Road Award jury selected i winners among 25 proposals presented by regions, territories and autonomous provinces. Evaluation criteria included design, construction, promotion, equipment, signage, green amenities and other parameters.

The Italian cycle tourism Oscar, now in its ninth edition, aims to stimulate administrations to enhance their excellent routes and promote investments in cycle tourism. The victory of the Pedemontana Ciclovia confirms the commitment of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in enhancing and promoting high-quality cycle tourism routes, offering cyclists not only splendid landscapes but also excellent services.

The Pedemontana FVG3 Ciclovia, a unique experience that embraces the scenic beauty, cultural richness and food and wine excellence of the region.

With a length of approx 180 kilometres, the cycle route follows the route outlined by the regional Alpine arc, starting from Sacile and ending in Gorizia-Nova Gorica, on the border with Slovenia. Along the way, cyclists will have the opportunity to explore the hidden treasures of the Friulian villages, immersing yourself in the history, art and winemaking tradition of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

One of the first jewels you come across is Maniago, renowned throughout the world for the artisanal production of knives. Here, among the cobbled streets, visitors can discover the ancient art of blacksmiths who have been working metal with skill and passion for centuries.

Continuing along the route, you reach Gemona del Friuli. Not far from here, it is located Cividale del Friuli, UNESCO site for Lombard art. Its medieval streets lead to artistic treasures such as the Longobard Temple, testimony to a glorious past that blends harmoniously with the contemporary life of the village. Along the route, cyclists can stop at the numerous wineries in the region to taste the renowned wines of the Grave, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Isonzo and Collio DOC areas. From fresh and aromatic whites to full-bodied and structured reds, orEvery sip tells the story and passion of generations of Friulian winemakers.

Furthermore, the cycle path connects to other cycle paths that allow you to explore further enchanting villages such as Polcenigo, Poffabbro and Venzone, among the most beautiful villages in Italy.
