the appointments between the stands continue

The second, intense and crowded day of Macfrut has also concluded.

The fourth edition of Biosolutions Innovation Award

Product innovation was awarded at Macfrut in the fourth edition of the Biosolutions Innovation Award, as part of the Biosolutions International Event which makes the trade fair the European point of reference for the sector with around seventy companies present. Coordinated by Agri2000 net, the scientific partner of the event, two innovations were awarded by the scientific committee: Vynyty Pro Press by Bayer and YaraMila Nutri by Yara. The award was presented by Lorenzo Galanti, general director of Ice Agenzia.

In detail, with Vynyty Pro Press the practice of sexual confusion in tomato and peach and achieves greater efficiency thanks to the longer duration of the treatment, the ease of use and the extreme sustainability of the product which at the end of its life degrades naturally in the environment. They were the ones to receive the award Silvano Locardifruit and vine marketing manager at Bayer, together with Ignazio Romeohorticultural marketing manager at Bayer.

The other innovative product awarded is YaraMila Nutri by Yara. Used on fruit and vegetable crops, it increases the growth of the root system and allows better absorption of nutrients administered at low doses. He accepted the award Rocco CavotoSales & Marketing and Agronomy by Yara.

Jingold, Unibo and Cer for innovation and efficiency of the supply chain

The consumption of yellow pulp kiwi is rapidly expanding, thanks to its numerous health benefits and organoleptic characteristics that are closer to the taste of a greater number of consumers. In Emilia-Romagna the cultivation of Jintao and Jinyan varieties – of which Jingold holds the exclusive license – it is spreading rapidly due to the high economic returns of the productions. To facilitate producers in practices of cultural management of these two varietiesespecially with regards to irrigation parameters, to date often based on the needs of the green pulp cultivar Hayward, the physiological behavior of the Jintao and Jinyan varieties has been studied, which present substantial differences from the green kiwi and for which water management plays a fundamental role, both to obtain production of quantity and quality. All in the context of climate changewhich leads farmers to have to manage extreme events such as heavy rainfall or excessive heat.

In this context Jingolda dynamic Italian company global kiwi specialist, has developed a project – financed by the EU as part of the Rural Development Program (RDP) 2014-2020 – on the efficient use of water resources, the management of which affects the quality parameters of the fruit, with implications for the entire supply chain, up to the final consumer. The project, called Innova.Kiwisaw the involvement ofUniversity of Bologna he was born in Emiliano Romagnolo Canal (Cer): the results – which led to the creation of a guide for technicians and producers to better manage the water asset – were illustrated today at Macfrut within the scope of a conference dedicated.

It was she who opened the proceedings Cristina Fabbronitechnical manager of Jingold, who moderated the conference. Luigi Manfriniprofessor at the University of Bologna and scientific director of Innova.Kiwi, gave a speech on the “Physiological characterization of Jintao and Jinyan cultivars subjected to different irrigation regimes”. Stefano Anconelli, director of the agronomic research and development area of the Emiliano Romagnolo Canal, explained how the yellow-fleshed kiwi varieties subjected to different irrigation regimes responded from a production point of view, in quantitative-qualitative terms. Stefano Predieriresearcher of the National Research Council (Cnr) of Bologna illustrated the results of the sensory tests carried out on expert panelists, while Daniele Orazi of Intertek presented the results of a qualitative survey regarding consumer perceptions of sustainable water management.

One of the main results of the project concerns theefficient use of water for the cultivation of the yellow-fleshed kiwi varieties Jintao and Jinyan. This is achieved through an integrated irrigation and fertigation control system, adapted to micro-irrigation systems, which modulates the application of water and fertilizers through the use of a Dssintegrated with sensors cutting edge and run through smart control units. The precision irrigation and fertigation system is controlled by Irrinetthe irrigation service created by Cer, created for farms in Emilia Romagna and available in many regions of Italy: it has been tested in the field, validated and improved and now made usable for all farmers who grow yellow pulp varieties Jintao and Jinyan.

This smart irrigation system, calibrated on the Jintao and Jinyan cultivars, allowsproduction optimization it’s a improvement of fruit qualitywith important advantages in terms of sustainability, environmental and also economic.

The post-harvest physiology of kiwi is rather complex since the freshly harvested fruit, not being suitable for consumption, must undergo a maturation process, which can occur in a controlled through the use of ethylene at different concentrations and temperatures. The controlled ripening protocols known up to now exclusively concerned green pulp kiwi varieties: today, thanks to the project, a specific ripening protocol also for the yellow-fleshed Jintao and Jinyan varietiescapable of guaranteeing the best qualitative and organoleptic characteristics of the fruit, right from the beginning of the commercial campaign.

Field trials and various post-harvest kiwi treatment tests were then followed laboratory analysis on fruits, whether or not ripened with ethylene and subjected to different irrigation regimes, to determine their qualitative and organoleptic characteristics. These tests were then complemented by asensory analysis edited by National Research Council of Bolognawith evaluation by expert panelistsfor a comparison of the fruits based on the different dynamics of production, conservation and related treatments.

A survey was also carried out on consumers, by the Intertek company, to understand how sensitive they are to the issue of sustainable management of water resources.

In just a few months, the Innova.Kiwi project has led to an improvement in the already efficient use of water thanks to the use of precision irrigation systems. It has also been proven by tests that theL yellow pulp kiwi cultivated with a rational use of water and brought to maturity with a protocol designed specifically for the Jintao and Jinyan varieties develops high organoleptic characteristics.

Lollobrigida visits the Mof stand

At Macfrut yesterday, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Francesco Lollobrigida visited the stand of Fondi wholesale agri-food centre.

With Giancarlo Righiniregional councilor for agriculture, Massimiliano Raffacommissioner Arsial, Valentino Di Pisapresident Fedagro, e Walter Gianmariapresident of the CAR, has long confronted the president Bernardino Quattrociocchi and the CEO Enzo Addessispeaking of fruit and vegetables, a sector worth over 16 billion euros in the agricultural phase, which rises to around 50 billion for the entire supply chain, with 300 thousand companies involved for 1.3 million hectares and a production of around 24 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables.

“The Mof operators – explained President Quattrociocchi – have invested and are still investing in structures and logistics, but also recently in artificial intelligence to offer our products in Italy, Europe and the world. We look very carefully at the aspect linked to internationalization and with the minister and councilor Righini we talked at length about the investments that would allow us to further open up to the Mediterranean and Europe. The Italian model is a point of reference and occasions like that of Rimini, but also like Berlin and Madrid and their fairs, are moments in which we can give impetus to our economy”.

An important moment for the Mof, which this year will turn off the premieres 50 candles of activity and which at stand 111 in Pavilion B5 made use of the precious presence of the co-exhibiting companies Del Prete, Italfrutta Di Manno, Ortofrutticola Magliozzi, Royal Fruit and Vaccaro.
