The investigation by the Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office into the death of the woman who fell from the Bema zipline hypothesizes manslaughter: checks on the harness but also on the dynamics of the fall, which would have been preceded by braking

BOLOGNA – The autopsy on the body of Ghizlane Moutahir will take place on Friday 10 May: Ghizlane is the 41-year-old woman who on Sunday she died after a fatal flight from the ‘Fly Emotion’ zipline in Valtellina. She fell into the void, falling into the woods below, while she was experiencing the incredible experience of ‘flying’ for a kilometer and a half suspended from a steel cable. The investigation opened by the Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office to clarify what went wrong hypothesizes manslaughter. The plant is under seizure.

CHECKS ON THE HARNESS

There are many doubts at the moment. First they will have to be done checks on the harness which was supposed to secure his body during the crossing. And that, instead, after her fatal fall, she remained attached to the rope. Was she defective or too old? Also under the scrutiny of investigators the harness fastening operations, made by the staff of the Fly Emotion facility, in the province of Sondrio, which connects Bema (departure point) and Albaredo to San Marco (arrival point): was it connected correctly? Another hypothesis is that of illness, which may have caused the woman’s fall. It is precisely on the illness that the investigators expect an answer from the autopsy on Friday: the experts will try to understand whether the woman felt ill before falling into the void.

GHIZLANE’S FLIGHT FROM FORTY METERS IN HEIGHT

The steel cable is located above the Bitto valley and the woods below, at the highest point, are 230 meters away. Ghizlane Moutahir, of Moroccan origin, fell from a height of thirty-forty meters.

THE VIDEO SHOT BY HIS GRANDDAUGHTER

The magistrates of the Prosecutor’s Office have acquired the investigation documents a video, shot by the woman’s niece, who was waiting for the 41-year-old upon arrival and who had experienced the ‘flight’ shortly before the woman. In fact, her nieces had done it before her and were waiting for her in Albaredo for San Marco. In the images, you can see the tragic fall of the 41-year-old.
Some witnesses, already on Sunday, would have said that Ghizlane at a certain point was in a vertical position during the flight: if it were true, from this incorrect position (the crossing must be done in a lying positionwith the legs secured) could have been due to an imbalance in the weight and the consequent fall.

BRAKING AND PANIC CRISIS?

One of the hypotheses that the investigators are working on is the fact that, shortly before the fall, there would have been some sort of braking during the crossing of the 41-year-old, who therefore found herself hanging, still, forty meters above the woods. . There was little left until arrival. The woman may have been scared and, perhaps in the grip of a panic attack, he may have tried to unhook himself from the harness, perhaps managing to free his legs. Hence the upright position that some witnesses spoke of? These are all aspects to be clarified and verified. In any case, it remains a mystery the fact that the woman could, possibly, have completely unhooked herself from the harness (remained hanging from the steel cable while it fell), which should not be possible. In the plant, which has been in operation for 13 years, no accidents had ever occurred.
