The mayor of Volterra: ‘”3 families evacuated”

The collapse of a portion of the city wall which occurred this morning caused theevacuation of three familiesannounced the mayor Giacomo Santi, specifying however that “it is a precautionary measure and that at the moment there is no damage to homes: an alternative solution to returning to one’s home has already been found for everyone”. Santi then added that the civil protection dog units “have ruled out the presence of other people involved“. A woman was slightly injured due to the collapse. The collapse, she explained, “occurred approximately 500 meters away from that of ten years ago and this demonstrates the fragility of the city walls even if there was no sign of dangerous situations”. The failure, concludes the mayor, “it may have been caused by the rains of the last few days although it is early to make hypotheses: in the meantime we are waiting for the arrival of other fire brigade teams from the Pisa headquarters to remove the debris and rubble caused by the collapse”.
