TAURIANOVA A journey to discover the history of the city and the precious artistic heritage it preserves, reflections on the evolution of Italian journalism and the presentation of the book which portrays one of the most emblematic characters of our era, but also the story of the fight against the ‘Ndrangheta from the of a courageous little girl and a hilarious phenomenology of today’s heterosexual male. These are some of the themes at the center of the upcoming events of “Taurianova Law”the literary event protagonist of the first part of the programming of Taurianova Italian Book Capital 2024.
A long Republic Day weekend for the Italian Book Capital full of events: Friday 31 May at 4.30 pm as part of the “Villaggio Sud Agrifest” cooperation festival – event twinned with Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 – Antonio Padellaro, one of the great names of Italian journalism, will present “Only the truth, I swear” (Piemme, 2024). An intimate diary made of confessions, reflections and revelations, often explosive and very bitter, in which the author, with the irony – and self-irony – that distinguish him, tells the mechanisms that govern the news and the background that often accompany it spanning more than fifty years of journalism, between scoops and autobiographical memories, portraits of powerful or eccentric characters who have followed one another, “masters” and lifelong friends. To dialogue with the author, the journalist and writer Marco Lupis.
At 7.00 pm, in the green spaces of the Villa Comunale, it will be the turn of Paolo Del Debbio, essayist, journalist and television host, who will present “In the name of freedom” (Piemme, 2024). The Governor of the Calabria Region will also be present for the occasion Roberto Occhiuto. Almost a year after the death of Silvio Berlusconi, Del Debbio reflects on the political legacy of one of the most emblematic figures in contemporary history, analyzing the values that determined his entry into the field and, subsequently, the long Berlusconian season, marking in a so decided, however one thinks, the recent past, the present and the future of Italian politics. The journalist will dialogue with the author Michel Dessì.
Among the events to mark on the diary, Saturday 1 June, at 4.30 pm at Villaggio Sud Agrifest, the magistrate Annamaria Frustaci will present “The girl who dreamed of defeating the mafia” (Mondadori, 2022), in dialogue with the judge Ilario Nasso. A story of growth and redemption to tell kids that when faced with the mafia there is always the possibility of taking a different path. At 10:00 am in the Council Chamber there will also be a special presentation dedicated to school students, moderated by the lawyer Francesca Orefice.
Also on June 1st, at 4:00 pm, the press conference to present theInfiorata of Taurianovaa historical event twinned with Taurianova Italian Book Capital and for this year a special one dedicated to comics.
On Sunday 2 June they will arrive in Taurianova Heterobasic, the duo loved by social networks composed of Maria Chiara Cicolani And Valeria De Angelis, to present “Romanzo di un male” (Einaudi, 2024). Between paradoxical episodes, stories of daily life, humorous and grotesque events, the novel is an ironic tale of the posture with which the basic male inhabits the world, starting from the various areas of his existence: love, work, sex, friendship, family. Until the unexpected, but inevitable, questioning of his own identity. The actress will dialogue with the authors Giusy Loschiavo And Nelly Dogali, social media manager, content editor and translator. The appointment is at 4.30pm at Villaggio Sud Agrifest.
Monday 3 June instead a day dedicated to the contamination between art, history and literature, with the critic and art historian as protagonist Vittorio Sgarbi who will also visit the city of Taurianova on the occasion of his mini tour in Calabria, accompanied by the art historian and critic Giuseppe Giglio. At the end of the journey, Sgarbi will hold a short lectio which will take place in the “Antonio Renda” Municipal Library.
