WOMEN’S SERIES B1 VOLLEYBALL. The team’s last home bracket ends with a defeatEverest MioVolley – the blue and white season will end next Saturday with the trip to the field of league leaders Clai Imola – who greets the public in front of a determined Garlasco who does not make any discounts and closes the match with a peremptory 0-3 which fuels the playoff race. Coach Mazzola changes all the performers during the match: only captain Chiara Scarabelli, who was struck by the flu during the week, and Federica Nonnati remain on the bench. On the other front, Favaretto holds the lead, pressing decisively on Everest’s second line, which is forced to raise the white flag despite a start to the race that had surprised the second strength of group C.
However, the emotions are concentrated once the challenge is over when it is the blue and white captain, Chiara Scarabelliwho announced his retirement from playing volleyball at the end of the season to receive the embrace of the entire MioVolley Consortium and the Palazzetto di Gossolengo.
In the general surprise it is the general director Gabriele Cornalba who takes the microphone with his voice broken by a rather evident emotion: in his words the sporting path traced at MioVolley together with Scarabelli who had resumed activity in the gym when the team had found themselves having to start again from the First Division until the long climb that culminated with promotion to Serie B1 and the incredible Serie B2 Italian Cup won last season. With him the former president Antonio Barbieri and the president Silvia Barbieri who took over the baton last September.
The word then passed to the captain who received a dedicated t-shirt with number 16 which will be retired: for Scarabelli too, many emotions were sealed by the applause of the opposing team and the tears of her teammates. Thanks arrived from the club considered as “a family” and to coach Enrico Mazzola who had coached Scarabelli during his time at Lupa Piacenza. “There is only one captain” was the chant launched by the public to underline their closeness to the player who will play the last match of a very long career on Saturday in Imola.
