Modica – In south-eastern Sicily, in Modica, a UNESCO heritage city, famous for the chocolate that is handed down from generation to generation, another excellence comes to life, DISTILLERIA ALMA, the Rum distillery, the result of expert research work and field analysis.
A courageous and challenging project conceived by three entrepreneurs – Annalisa Spadaro, Hugo Gallardo and Alejandro Lopez – who intend to enhance the Sicilian territory through the rediscovery of raw materials such as sugar cane which have been abandoned for centuries.
A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
The company follows the entire supply chain which starts from the cultivation of sugar cane and ends with bottling. And with the first batch of the Mater Rum reference put on the market, it won an important recognition, the gold medal at the London Spirits Competition 2024, a prestigious international competition in which over 2000 brands of spirits from more than 80 countries participated in the world. Thus, Italy, traditionally a country of bitters and grappas, is rewarded in a new one
category waiting to be discovered. But in addition to Rum, Mater Gin also won the silver medal.
