Pedophilia, 53 people investigated in Liguria in 2023

Genoa – There are 53 people under investigation in Liguria in 2023 for child pornography and online solicitation. These are the data collected by the postal police on the occasion of the national day against pedophilia and child pornography. The analysis of data relating to last year highlighted a stable trend for crimes involving child pornography and online solicitation, while the data regarding crimes against people perpetrated online showed a slight increase.

As regards crimes against the person, 60 cases were dealt with including stalking, online defamation, threats, revenge porn, harassment, sextortion, illicit data processing, impersonation, hate speech, suicidal intentions. The Operational Center for Cyber ​​Security – Postal Police for Liguria, as part of the activities to prevent and combat crimes relating to violence against minors, conducted two complex undercover activities through instant messaging platforms, which led to the arrest of two people who had thousands of files (photos and videos) produced through the sexual exploitation of minors even at very young ages, and three suspects in a state of freedom for the detention and dissemination of child pornography material. During the local and IT searches, numerous files were seized, over 4,500 photos and 600 videos, devices and virtual spaces activated and used specifically to archive and share files of investigative interest.
