The Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been postponed to a later date due to the floods that have hit all of Central Asia. For now it has been postponed, but it is not excluded that it will be held next year too

Un joint statement from FIM, IRTA And Dorna officially announces that the Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been postponed on a date to be determined. “Unprecedented weather conditions have resulted floods across Central Asia, causing a national emergency in Kazakhstan and displacing much of the population. It would not be responsible for MotoGP to add further burdens to authorities or services as they work to help the tens of thousands of people affected across the country. The Sokol International Racetrack will therefore not host the MotoGP on the previously announced dates, and any further updates will be published once confirmed. As our top priority, MotoGP sends our condolences and support to the people of Kazakhstan and all those affected by the floods in Central Asia. We hope that the affected nation, region and communities can recover as soon as possible.”

THEThis year’s calendar has already seen the stage on the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit skipped Argentinagiven the natural disaster that hit Kazakhstan also the races of June 14-16 are officially postponed. A troubled entrance to the Kazakh circuit, given that last year it was not included in the calendar because the structures were not yet completed, now the flood. At the beginning of the season the boss Carmelo Ezpeleta had announced that, if the Kazakhstan GP had been missed, it would not have been postponed but suppressed. The reference was to a possible delay in the implementation of the infrastructure, in this case the motivation is different but we seem to understand that it will be easier for the date to be eliminated rather than postponed. This way the calendar would see clearly 10 consecutive appointments on European soil (counting Jerez which has already taken place) until the San Marino GP on 6-8 September.
