Orthopaedics, 25 million more against escapes outside the region – Primocanale.it

GENOA – Within the next week the provision that provides for the allocation of funds will be voted on in the regional council, 25 million, to increase orthopedic services in Liguriawith the involvement of the accredited private sector and with the aim of reducing waiting lists and patient escapes to other regions, for this specialty.

“We are getting ready – explains the President of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti – to implement another piece of the extraordinary measures that we have wanted to implement since the beginning of the year, with the aim of reducing waiting times and reducing the number of people who go to other regions to seek treatment. Orthopedics is historically a branch for which the Ligurians, especially in the border territories, have chosen neighboring regions in significant numbers for treatment. We are working towards a clear reversal of the trend. The increase in orthopedic services in our hospitals has already grown in recent years: compared to 2021 they increased by 9%. With the measure we are about to adopt, we are aiming for growth of more than 25%.

“We are waiting – adds the health councilor Angelo Gratarola – that alongside our activities, the Government also formalizes the announced decree to reduce waiting lists. As far as has been anticipated, it is a measure that goes in the direction we have already taken: increase in services, guidelines on appropriateness, consent for hospitals to purchase freelance services from their doctors. The latter in particular is a tool that could actually overcome the legislation that the Liguria Region had approved at the end of 2023 and which had been challenged by the Government itself. Together with the expressions of interest for the accredited private individual, we could thus provide further impetus to reduce waiting times for visits and exams”.

“In the field of orthopedics – he explains Filippo Ansaldi, General Director of Alisa – we record an annual requirement equal to approximately 125 million in production value. Already during 2023 we have witnessed a significant growth in the activities of our healthcare system, equal to 9%. The regional funding and the consequent expression of interest for the accredited private individual, together with a further increase in the budget dedicated to this field for companies, have the aim not only of increasing the number of services, but also of reducing the passive mobility in a significant way and to increase the attractiveness of Ligurian structures from other regions”.

THE CONSULTATION FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST OVARIAN CANCER HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN LILT GENOA

World Ovarian Cancer Day is celebrated every year on 8 May to increasingly improve knowledge and attention towards this tumor. Ovarian cancer is the least frequent gynecological neoplasm but it is the ‘big killer’ of gynecological neoplasms due to its its biological aggressiveness. “in Liguria – – underlines Serafina Mammoliti, medical oncologist and DMT (Disease Management Team) coordinator for gynecological neoplasms at the San Martino Polyclinic – there are around 150 new diagnoses/year and around 500 patients under treatment. It is a subtle disease that does not give specific symptoms: information and timely diagnosis are determining factors for positively changing the evolutionary history of the disease and its prognosis – continues Mammoliti. Last March, within the Lilt Genoa Association, the Consultation for the fight against ovarian cancer was born which deals with prevention, diagnosis, treatment and assistance to patients affected by ovarian cancer in all its phases and was established to increasingly improve knowledge and attention towards this tumor”.

MAY 5TH WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY

Various initiatives are planned throughout Liguria on the occasion of World Hand Hygiene Day, scheduled for Sunday 5 May. “Sharing knowledge about hand washing – explains Andrea Orsi, associate professor at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Genoa – is essential because it helps to stop the spread of harmful germs in the healthcare sector.
