AgenPress – The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned in a private meeting that Israel will proceed with the invasion of Rafah whether Hamas continues to condition a hostage deal on the end of the war, two Israeli and US officials said.

The Biden administration is deeply concerned about the possibility of an Israeli military invasion of Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip where more than a million displaced Palestinians are taking refuge.

Biden has been personally involved in the intense efforts in recent days to achieve a agreement on hostages and ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which it sees as a crucial element of a much broader strategy at home and abroad, U.S. officials say.

The president’s senior advisers say the deal on the table right now is the only conceivable path to a ceasefire in Gaza and to an end to a war that has drawn sharp criticism of Biden among some of his own main supporters before the presidential elections. .
