It all started with the usual phone call from a fake policeman informing an elderly couple of their son’s involvement in a bad road accident. It happened in San Gemini where the usual thugs managed to pocket four thousand euros. However, the one who ruined the scammers’ plan was the police from the local station who managed to trace the license plate number of the car rented by the criminals. This is how the complaint was filed for two young residents in the province of Caserta, a 24-year-old with a history of fraud and a 20-year-old with no criminal record. The two had managed to pocket 4 thousand euros in cash and gold. The couple in their seventies from San Gemini had been contacted by telephone by a self-styled marshal of the Carabinieri who had said that his son had caused a serious road accident, following which the relative had been taken to the emergency room of the Terni hospital. The fake policeman invited the mother to urgently go to the hospital. The skilled fraudster, in the meantime, had obtained the cell phone numbers of the woman and her husband, who in fact was called shortly afterwards by an accomplice, with the intention of keeping both people busy and preventing them from being able to talk to others, even more so with his son. Thus, while the woman went to the hospital, always remaining in contact with the self-styled marshal, her husband, who remained at home, was informed by his accomplice, who in turn passed himself off as a lawyer, that the immediate payment of a large sum was necessary, equal to 20 thousand euros, to compensate the victim of the accident who had been hit by his son and was in very serious conditions. Frightened by the circumstances, the elderly man had collected what he had available, around 4 thousand euros in money and jewellery, handing it over to the intermediary of the fake lawyer who showed up, after a few minutes, at his home. The deception was then discovered by the woman, who in the meantime had arrived in hospital in vain. The police were thus alerted, thanks to the images of a private video surveillance camera, who in a very short time managed to trace the license plate of the car used by the criminals. The investigative activity continues to identify any accomplices. The two young people were reported in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Terni while the Police Commissioner issued a mandatory deportation order with a ban on returning to the Municipality of San Gemini.
