Thieves in action in Brugherio, night explosion devastates the post office

A loud bang interrupted the silence of the night in the quiet Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII in Brugherio, marking the epicenter of a devastating explosion that left the post office in rubble. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May Day, sparked alarm and concern among neighborhood residents.

According to initial reconstructions, the group of criminals responsible for the gesture presumably aimed at the automatic teller machine of the post office, which was strategic since it was supposed to pay out pensions starting from May 2nd. The explosion not only destroyed the building’s windows, but also hurled chairs and debris well beyond the confines of the office, testifying to the power of the blast.

At the moment of the explosion, residents were awakened by the roar and many rushed to the windows, witnessing the hasty escape of the thieves. The Carabinieri of Brugherio quickly intervened on site and started investigations to identify the culprits and ascertain any loot taken away by the gang.

“We heard a deafening noise,” says a resident, still visibly shaken. “At first we didn’t understand what was happening, then we saw the siren lights and understood the gravity of the situation.”

The investigations are currently underway and investigators are examining footage from security cameras in the area, as well as collecting testimonies to reconstruct the dynamics of the events and identify those responsible. The post office will remain closed until further notice while experts assess the extent of the damage and the structure of the building.
