The former Biancoceleste goalkeeper talks about his new life after his farewell to football and a long career as third goalkeeper
After retiring, my life changes. The former Biancoceleste goalkeeper Thomas Berni he ended his career by retiring from playing football in 2020 after seven consecutive years at Inter. The third historic goalkeeper, who played for Rome from 2006 to 2009 with just six appearances with the eagle on his chest, spoke in the columns of Corriere della Sera his new life. These are his words.
“I live in Ibiza, where my wife has been working in the holistic and curanderismo field for 11 years. I’m carrying out various things, I have a small percentage in a club and I’m a concierge, even though I haven’t founded any company. Rental boats, cars, villas or apartments. I have to work, I can’t afford to live on an income. I was privileged, playing football I earned more than average. But not so much that I can manage my savings. Even because it’s no longer the same Ibiza. Prices have become crazy, from hotels to restaurants and rentals. A room costs around 1000 euros. I love the sea and boats. I’ve already taken two exams to become a yacht captain, five in total and it’s no joke. In short, I started studying again, I who as a boy was unable to continue my studies. I’ve always been sorry, but you never stop learning.”
