Historic moment for Coinbase and also for Lightning Network. According to what has been confirmed by the exchange itself, from today transfers will be available on what is the layer 2 most popular on Bitcoin. The possibility of depositing and withdrawing at a fraction of the costs will therefore be available to everyone.

As had already been announced in the past, the integration was completed thanks to the collaboration with Lightspark. Coinbase is the latest to be added to a long list of exchanges that already support this method of deposit and withdrawal, starting with Binance and ending with Kraken and Bitfinex, just to mention those with the most important volumes.

Good news for both users of Coinbase, and for the health of Lightning, which will now also be able to count on support from one of the most important exchanges in the world. Coinbase integrates Lightning Network starting today

It is not yet available in our App and on our account, but it should be soon. Coinbase it has in fact integrated Lightning Network, the most popular of the layer 2 on Bitcoinwhich will now allow you to pay and receive BTC at a fraction of the costs compared to exchanges on layer 1.

A historic step, which was long overdue and which will make Coinbase open to this technology after many other exchanges had already offered the same possibility to their users.

And transfers – something Lightning users should already know – will obviously be much faster than current ones, with Bitcoin’s blocktime sometimes forcing you to wait more than 1 hour before the transfer is finalized.

According to what was reported by The Block, there will be one additional commission 0.1% for outgoing transfer using this specific channel.

Also available for Italians

The integration will also be available for Italians. For now the only users excluded will be those in New York and Canada, for regulatory reasons.

As soon as we can test the service, we will be sure to update you on how it works and how to use it to send and receive Bitcoin cheaper and faster. For now, we repeat, it does not appear to have been activated yet on our editorial account.
