Antonella Lattanzi wins the 2024 Wondy Award

(Adnkronos) – Antonella Lattanzi with the novel “Cose che non si narrato” (Einaudi) is the winner of the seventh edition of the Wondy Prize for resilient literature, announced on Monday 29 April, at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan during the traditional evening of celebration between words and music that accompanies the award ceremony, presented by Camila Raznovich and Alessandra Tedesco, with the participation of numerous guests including: Clara Soccini, the pianist Leo Einaudi, the Piccola Orchestra dei Popoli, and the actors Valerio Aprea, Vinicio Marchioni, Marta Gastini and Pia Lanciotti. Laura Imai Messina with the book “The island of heartbeats” (Piemme) is the winner declared by the popular jury. A special mention was also awarded to Claudia Grande for the book “Bim Bum Bam Ketamina” (The Assayer). The Technical Jury, chaired by Gaia Tortora and composed of Marco Balzano, Federico Bertoni, Alessandra Carati, Paola Cereda, Cristina Di Canio, Luca Dini, Emanuele Nenna, Roberta Scorranese and Gianni Turchetta, expressed itself in the motivation: “Antonella Lattanzi tells , with great courage and fierce determination, the very private story of the attempt to have a child at thirty-eight through assisted fertilization. It can be said that everything goes in the worst way: Antonella becomes pregnant with three girls and has to proceed with what is called euphemistically a ‘reduction’, stopping the heart of one of them: but all three die is a powerful narrative, concentrated to the point of obsession, which involves and shocks because it is capable of avoiding any surrender to pathos, building a gaze and a voice full of suffering, but denied any temptation to effusiveness. Resilience acts here at every moment, even when desperation lurks.” Lattanzi, again according to the jury, “chooses the path of a frankly autobiographical narrative, with long stretches of diarism. The apparent simplicity of the plot, however, must not be deceiving: the keystone of the book is in fact a rigorous editing, which generates a relentless narrative progression, riveting the reader until the end. The author uses a dry, tense and even colloquial style. Her autobiography, almost without filter, manages to stage dramas shared by many women, penetrating into a world. unprecedented intimacy of the soul and body, and putting the very meaning of writing at stake: a challenge to an intolerable pain, which transforms into the very reason to continue living”. The other finalist works were: “The life of those who remain” by Matteo B. Bianchi (Mondadori), “Parole hidden” by Arianna Montanari (Mondadori), “Una piccolo pace” by Mattia Signorini (Feltrinelli) and “Male a Est” by Andreea Simionel (Italo Svevo). The winner receives a prize of 5,000 euros and a work on canvas by the artist Luca Tridente, whose works donated in previous editions have been included in the Catalog of modern art (Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori), considered a point of reference for the modern and contemporary art. A prize of 2,000 euros was instead awarded to the winner of the popular jury. Before the evening, a moment dedicated to jurors and finalists was organized in collaboration with ABC Catering, a project created to give the inmates of the Bollate prison a second chance, giving them the necessary training to set up high-profile events. An initiative that sees food as a possibility for social redemption, offering a way to restore identity to people and accompany them back into society through belonging to a recognized job. An example of inclusion and resilience, in the full spirit of the evening. The Wondy Prize for resilient literature is the literary recognition created in 2018 in memory of the journalist and writer Francesca Del Rosso (1974-2016), known by the nickname Wondy and author of the volume “Wondy – or how to become superheroes to recover from cancer” (Rizzoli, 2014), in which he described his way of dealing with the disease with irony and courage. Awarded annually and reserved for books that express the concept of resilience with particular force through literary prose, the Award is promoted and organized by the “Wondy Sono Io” association, created together with a group of friends by Alessandro Milan, with the aim to continue the great human and intellectual legacy left by his wife Francesca, a great book enthusiast, who with her story was able to teach women and men how difficulties of various kinds in life can – and must – be faced, possibly with a smile —[email protected] (Web Info)
