Body of a 16-year-old girl in concrete, case solved 55 years later with DNA from a victim of 9/11

The New York police investigators who never gave up managed to solve the cold case of the 16-year-old 55 years after her death, thanks to the DNA of a victim of the September 11 attack on the Twin Towers.

The mysterious murder of a teenager occurred in the center of Manhattan of which no one knew anything for decades, the body of the very young victim emerged by chance only over 30 years later and very few clues from which to start an investigation. These were the desolating elements from which the New York police investigators started, but they never gave up, arriving at solve the cold case 55 years after the death of the teenager, thanks to DNA of a victim of the September 11 attack on the Twin Towers.

The Cold Case Squad of the New York police, in fact, announced in recent days the conclusion of a team effort that lasted decades which led to the identification of what had been defined as “Midtown Jane Doe” at the time of the discovery of the body in 2003. After 21 years, the teenager was identified as Patricia Kathleen McGlone, just 16 years old at the time.

The girl she had last been seen in 1969 when someone killed her and buried her in the basement of what was once the famous club “Steve Paul’s The Scene”. However, only on February 10, 2003, her body was found by some construction workers who were in the building destined for demolition. The 16-year-old’s skeleton was wrapped in a carpet and embedded in concrete.

“They were breaking through the concrete floor and a skull rolled out,” the detective who has been working on the case for the past few years, Ryan Glas, told NBC, revealing: “She was tied with an electric cable and the remains indicate that he was in the fetal position.”

The victim he wore a ring with initials “PMcG”, corresponding to his name and a watch from the 1960s. A 1969 dime and a plastic toy soldier were also found on her, leading police to believe she may have given birth to a baby before her death.

However, nothing was known about her until the breakthrough thanks to DNA. In recent years, in fact, unsolved cases have been re-examined in an attempt to reconstruct the family tree of the victims. In this case we arrived at the identity of the 16 year old because his DNA matched that of a family member killed in 9/11.

Publicly available DNA records, including those of a 9/11 victim, finally linked those 2003 remains to Patricia Kathleen McGlone, a Brooklyn girl who disappeared in 1969.
