The speech of the mayoral candidate Edoardo Gaffeo is expected and he will also talk about the interventions on the Langer park in Rovigo

Protection and enhancement of green spaces in city planning will be the thematic focus of the meeting organized by the Citizens’ Forum and entitled “The Green Plan for living the city” and scheduled for Tuesday 30 April at 6.00 pm in Gran Guardia. Dina Merlo, a leading exponent of the Forum, the naturalistic and environmentalist associations will participate and the mayoral candidate Edoardo Gaffeo will speak for the conclusions.

Among the planned topics, we will also talk about Parco Langer, the only forest currently present in Rovigo which will be redeveloped and… will remain a forest. An unexpected epilogue for an area where road or methane infrastructures had been hypothesized over the years.

The redevelopment of Parco Langer, a wooded area of over 7 hectares located north of the Commenda district, is, for the mayoral candidate Edoardo Gaffeo, a “masterpiece of collaboration between institutions, associations and citizens” coordinated by his previous council, in particular by the former councilor Dina Merlo, and which she intends to complete in her next term as mayor.

«The importance for the city of this area – declares the mayoral candidate Edoardo Gaffeo – which is located on the edge of the town in the Commenda district close to the school complex, is underlined by the establishment of a historical, cultural and environmental bond and by the commitment developed for years by associations, previous administrations and individual citizens to try to obtain the passage of the park into the availability and ownership of the Municipality of Rovigo. Langer Park will become not only a natural jewel of the city, but also a vital center for educational and recreational activities for citizens of all ages.”

The Parco Langer project

The redevelopment project will be implemented in six phases and with a total investment of 1,465,000 euros, for which the support of the Cariparo Foundation has materialized for a value of 700,000 euros (to which are added the 200,000 euros previously allocated and the 125 thousand euros paid by the Municipality) which will allow the realization to be brought much earlier than expected.

Included in the works to be carried out are the renovation of the historic building known as the former shooting gallery and the surrounding green areas, also guaranteeing easier access for disabled people. Spaces will be created for environmental education and the organization of guided tours.

A Long and Complex Process

To achieve this result, a long and detailed relationship was opened with the State Property Office and with the competent Superintendence which led the Gaffeo Administration to produce an overall valorization project for the area, for the renovation of the building and its green areas of relevance, presented and approved at the technical table requested by the Municipality with the competent bodies. A job to which the then councilor Dina Merlo contributed.

The acquisition of the Park by the Municipality was also necessary to access the AURO funds for the recovery of the green area (forest) behind the building. The request for a further 400,000 euros to redevelop and secure the forest has already been approved in the general strategy for sustainable development of the Veneto Region in the Green Infrastructure Measure, compatible with the fact that the area fell within the availability of the Municipality of Rovigo .

“This project represents a significant step towards the protection and enhancement of our precious urban forest. Its realization is the result of a joint commitment to promote an excellent environmental management model, based on dialogue and collaboration with the competent institutions” concludes Edoardo Gaffeo declaring that as a mayoral candidate he asks for the trust of the citizens of Rovigo to complete the work on Langer Park with the goal of creating a sustainable and inclusive future for our community.”
