Two dead and several injured following a terrible crash involving a truck and a car along Highway A around 5.15pm10 in the municipal area of Sanremo, just before the tunnel towards Genoa near the hamlet of San Giovanni.
The motorway is currently blocked in the direction of Genoa. In the crash – some residents in the area heard a loud bang – a truck overturned on its side, another truck hit it, and a minivan with six people on board ended up against the second vehicle and crashed. Two people who were on board the minivan died, a man and a woman.
Two other seriously injured people were transported under code red to Santa Corona in Pietra Ligure, a woman whose arm had to be amputated by medics, and a man who had both legs amputated. Two other more minor injuries are in code yellow in the Sanremo emergency room. In addition to the emergency vehicles and the traffic cars, firefighters intervened on site and 118 requested the intervention of a helicopter for the injured. The detailed dynamics of the accident are still to be clarified.
