In Verona the cost of a cup of coffee at the bar risks further increases: it is the Assoutenti Consumers Association that raises the alarm. The rise in raw materials could lead to increases in the purchase of espresso at the bar. In Verona, the the cost of the “caffettino” varies between 1.20 euros at the counter and 2.50 euros outsidethe latter price justified since adding the service. Piazza Erbe, according to a study by Confesercenti, sees the cup fluctuating between 1.20 euros at the counter and even two euros if location is “panoramic”.
In just three years, the average price of a cup has already increased by 15% in the main Italian cities, representing a turnover of 7 billion euros. According to an investigation by Assoutenti, the traditional Italian breakfast in the bars and pastry shops of Verona risks becoming more and more a luxury, considering the increase of coffee prices.
How much does a cup of coffee cost in Veneto?
The Veneto is not exempt from this trend, according to Assoutenti, which provides data on retail prices and consumption. The average cost of a coffee at the counter currently stands at 1.18 euros in the main Italian cities, a significant increase compared to the 1.03 euros recorded just three years ago in 2021equal to 14.9%.
This increase is partly due toincrease in the cost of the raw material, i.e. coffee, who passed by 6.14 euros per kilogram in 2020 to 7.53 euros at the end of 2023marking an overall increase by 23% in three years.
The cafés in the historic center of Verona, which have to cope with high rental costs, are particularly affected by this increasingly critical economic situation. The Consumers Association warns that there could be increases also for aperitifs and that restaurant price lists could undergo price changes.
