MESSINA – The journey through the abandoned places of Messina continues. We are on Via Consolare Pompea, this is the former “Paradis” hotel. A structure that in its golden years hosted weddings, baptisms and anniversaries of many people from Messina.
The sea view hotel that occasionally catches fire
A hotel overlooking the sea where fires often break out. The last one a week ago, and many others in the past months and years. The structure is devoured by weeds and vines and surrounded by waste of all kinds. From unsorted bags to bulky items such as refrigerators, old bumper televisions, strollers and toilets, to special waste such as car tyres. In short, the former parking area has become a place to unload everything. Sometimes the flames that broke out outside also involved the internal rooms, where homeless people happened to be sleeping.
