More unjustified and unfounded attacks on the Park’s initiatives. The cycle path for which the design modification is requested has already existed carried out in compliance with the relevant regulations after having been duly authorized in a service conference in compliance with all the requirements dictated among others by the regional department responsible for the regional cycle network and in close collaboration with the municipal administration” thus begins the note from the Porto Conte Regional Park which quickly responds to the observations made yesterday by the spokespersons in the M5S City Council Mariantonietta Alivesi and Giusy Di Maio (READ). The two councilors had argued, among other things, that “The decision to cover 2100 square meters of free land with a pour of concrete appears to be in conflict with the principles of environmental sustainability and greenery protection. In a historical moment in which the fight against climate change is a priority, this choice is anachronistic and potentially harmful to the local ecosystem. We read in the Park’s note:

The cycle path that is being completed along the Via Emilia, created by the Porto Conte Park with funding provided by the metropolitan network, is finally filling a historical gap. That is, it finally connects the final stretch of the cycle path of Via Lido-Viale Primo Maggio with the stretch of Viale Burruni and the cycle paths that run along and within the Calich compendium.

An interconnection that has been awaited for decades, which will, among other things, allow cycling citizens to easily reach the Maria Pia sports area. Not only that, thanks to the Park’s intervention, dignity is restored to a road that until yesterday was an unsafe dirt road.

The work was also possible thanks to an agreement with the Municipality of Alghero which sanctioned the sharing of the route which was certainly safer than the very busy Via Liguria in which there were not even any useful spaces.

Unlike what is stated by those who continue to criticize the park for bias, the at-grade intersections present are well signposted with horizontal and vertical signs in accordance with the highway code. At the crossings of Viale Burruni and Viale Primo Maggio there are even swinging lights to indicate the passage of cyclists, operational day and night and equipped with photovoltaic panels. Furthermore, the internal intersections in Maria Pia have a low level of danger because there is little traffic and a reduced speed limit. “It is sad to point out once again – comments the director of the Porto Park Conte Adriano Grossi – delegated by the Board of Directors for the public works being implemented – how we continue to insist on the initiatives promoted by the Park, raising and insinuating doubts on the legitimacy and correctness of the intervention (and the professionalism of the Park structure and the technicians in charge) also authorized by the relevant bodies.

It is enough to delve deeper into the project and what has already been implemented to realize that the criticisms are baseless. And instead we focus on a modern work whose approach we would like to change when it is nearing completion.”

“The intervention – continues Grossi – as well as the cycle path of Via Emilia also made it possible to create a car park on Viale Burruni to support accessibility to the areas and nature paths created along the banks of the Calich and to complete a new natural path which connects Viale Burruni with the coast road to Fertilia.”
