Accident in Agrate Brianza, Mesolcino resident under house arrest

From: Grigioni Sera/RSI Info

A 62-year-old man resident in Domodossola died in the crash between two vans. For the 58-year-old from Mesolcino, however, there was a brief hospitalization in the San Raffaele hospital in Milan and was subsequently transferred to prison. The man is now under house arrest in an apartment in the province of Brescia, because the accident occurred on Italian soil and it was therefore the judiciary of Monza and Brianza that established the next steps according to Italian law. The same judiciary demanded that the 58-year-old, while waiting for the matter to be definitively clarified, found a place at a certain distance from the border with Switzerland to avoid the risk of fleeing. The choice therefore fell on Brescia with an apartment temporarily rented.

The former politician from Roveredo, who admits his responsibilities, declared that that evening he had not consumed alcohol or drugs – as confirmed by the tests – and that the weather conditions were prohibitive. The pouring rain would have confused the man from Mesolcino to the point of taking, albeit at a reduced speed, a road going against traffic. The man also did not have a driving license, having previously been withdrawn by the Swiss authorities. The alleged crime is aggravated vehicular homicide.
