Damage and vandalism to the church of San Bernardino Realino in Carpi. Yesterday morning the church located in Viale Alghisi was, in fact, targeted by an unknown person who entered the premises, perhaps posing as a believer. Taking advantage of a moment in which there were no other people, the man, apparently a young man disguised as wearing a hood, attempted to steal from the donation boxes, forcing them open. However, he did not succeed in his aim. He then headed towards the chapel on the right and here he set fire to the tablecloth on the altar. Then he ran away, losing track of him. The parish priest, alarmed by the noises and the smell of burning, rushed into the chapel and alerted the police. Firefighters and agents from the Carpi police station were on site. The images from the video surveillance system are being examined. Condemnation of the incident and closeness to the community of San Bernardino Realino and to Don Mauro Pancera was expressed by Don Antonio Dotti, parish priest of Quartirolo: “The chapel of San Bernardino Realino was desecrated. Solidarity with Don Mauro and his entire community for this vile act against the Church”.
