Bologna, 26 April 2024 – Shocked and incredulous. There Fortitude mourns the passing of Reuben Douglas, iconic player of the second Fortitudo championship. Confirmation of Ruben Douglas’ death came today from his brother Ramon. Ruben 44 years old was hit from a sudden health problem which was fatal to him, a few days ago, in Costa Rica.
Douglas was the protagonist of one of the most iconic moments of the history of Effewith that unforgettable three-point shot validated by the instant replay and which he delivered to Fortitudo (in June 2005) his second championship and which made him a true blue and white idol, despite having only worn the Bolognese tank top for one year.
The love between Douglas and Fortitudo it has continued even in recent yearsit is enough to remember the huge crowd that welcomed him in 2019 on his return to the city to celebrate the 14th anniversary of that historic basket that had given Fortitudo the championship.
The news of Douglas’ passing was announced in a touching statement by the same company that remembered how Ruben will remain “Forever in our hearts. Forever in our history.”
