the Observatory on compulsory health treatments is born – Torino Oggi

In the five-year period 2019-2023 in Turin, the number of Mandatory Health Checks and Mandatory Health Treatments grew: around 200 interventions were arranged every year, with a consequent increase in the operators’ workloads.

This morning the council gave the green light to the establishment of theObservatory on mandatory health treatments in the Cityin collaboration with the Department of Law of the University of Turin, the Department of Cultures, Policies and Society of the University of Turin, the Guarantor of the rights of persons deprived of personal liberty of the Municipality of Turin, the Company local health system of the City of Turin, AUO City of Health and Science and the Court of Turin.

The objectives

The agreement will last for 36 months, with the possibility of renewal. Among the organisation’s objectives is to increase knowledge of the phenomenon of compulsory healthcare treatments, the situations in which the need arises, deepen their impact on the city’s social and healthcare services and protect the rights of the people involved through accurate scientific analyses, including in order to identify good practices to pursue.

Last year, the City approved the signing of an annual Convention, aimed at establishing a research and study group on the topics of Mandatory Health Checks (ASO) and Mandatory Health Treatments (TSO), to finally arrive at the Observatory . In the period March 2023 – March 2024, the research and study group carried out an analysis of all the files concerning the TSOs carried out in the City of Turin in the five-year period 2019-2023.
