FRANCAVILLA – A rapid response by rescue authorities saved an elderly man from the impassable Alcantara gorges today, avoiding a potential tragedy. At 9.30 this morning, the operations center of the Messina Fire Brigade received an emergency call from the Single Emergency Unit (NUE), reporting a need for help for an injured person in an area difficult to reach, in the gorges of ‘Alcantara, in the territory of the Municipality of Francavilla di Sicilia.
The response was immediate: a fire brigade team from the Letojanni detachment was sent to the site, together with a fire brigade helicopter, the “Drago 148”, with air rescue personnel from the helicopter unit of Fontanarossa Catania.
The air rescuers reached the injured elderly man and immobilized him on a stretcher. Thanks to the winch supplied with the helicopter, the man was hoisted on board and immediately transferred to the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania for the necessary checks and treatment. The timely and coordinated intervention of the rescue authorities made it possible to avoid a tragedy and ensure rapid transport for the necessary medical assistance. The situation was handled with great professionalism and efficiency, demonstrating the importance of a rapid response in emergency situations.
