“The flood was the hardest moment of the mandate”

In any case, in just over a month Cervia will have a new mayor. Massimo Medri, current mayor, takes stock of his last mandate, also leaving a message to the city.

Mayor, you are nearing the end of your fourth term. You are the mayor with the distinction of having governed the most in Cervia.

“I am grateful to the citizens for having given me this extraordinary experience; I never thought I would return to being mayor 15 years after my last mandate. But returning to this wonderful city after so many years, and winning in the first round, was a source of pride. I have always felt like everyone’s mayor.”

Five difficult years for extraordinary causes. How much did they influence his goals?

“They had an important influence. I would have liked to see at least the first part of the Giuseppe Palanti Urban Park completed and to be at a more advanced stage of the projects started in the salt pans: the new cycle path and the new Salt Museum spread with the Archaeological Park”.

One year ago the flood. What is the situation today?

“It was the most difficult moment of these five years. We tried to manage the emergency without leaving anyone alone. We helped citizens in managing the procedures and we were a Municipality that made 1000 euros available per family for the first needs. An important effort has also been made for Salina; we are certain that – thanks not only to the municipal machinery but also to the president of the Salina Park Pomicetti – we will be able to collect salt again in August”.

What does it want to say to its citizens?

“I thank them for giving me the opportunity to carry out a service to the city as mayor for 21 years and carry out ambitious projects. These results were also achieved thanks to them, to a strong cohesion of the entire Cervia community”.

What will he do now? “I will remain active for the city, if anyone asks me, I will lend a hand.”

How do you see the future of the city?

“After the epochal upheavals of recent years, nothing will go back to the way it was before. It will therefore be necessary to maintain strong social cohesion to identify common objectives on which to commit the best energies of the public and private sectors. To do this, it is necessary to strengthen the already very high level of the network social protection and opportunities for civil and cultural growth. This legislature we have taken important steps in this direction by establishing the Linguistic High School, repotting the Cervia Ambiente headquarters in the city, and building a healthcare pact this road”.
