THE MAYOR OF PRATOLA REMEMBERS VITTORIO MONDAZZI ON LIBERATION DAY

Pratola Peligna also celebrated the 25th of April. In addition to the mayor Antonella Di Nino, the new regional councilor Roberto Santangelo and the president of the Maiella Brigade, Nicola Mattoscio, took part in the ceremony which was held in front of the monument of the Maiella Brigade in the municipal house. Also present was the new regional councilor of Fratelli d’Italia, Maria Assunta Rossi. In addition to the patriots of the Maiella Brigade, Mayor Di Nino remembered Vittorio Mondazzi, a thoroughbred Pratolano who did not hesitate to sacrifice his life to defend some comrades. After the armistice of 8 September 1943, Vittorio Mondazzi, born in Pratola in 1913, was captured in a foreign land by the Nazi-fascists and, refusing to join their army, was interned. He was only freed after months of suffering, but he chose to continue the resistance fight against Nazi-fascism, sacrificing himself until his death, to defend some comrades. His example of pride and courage, in defense of freedom and democracy, was rewarded with the the Bronze Medal for Military Valour, placed on the municipal banner by the Minister of Defense on 24 May 2019.
