From the mill the success of Farchioni: oil, wine and now also beer

Vino, oil and beer. Farchioni’s bouquet is broad and embraces three excellent products of Italian food and wine culture and tradition. At Vinitaly, the company had the opportunity to present itself once again, starting with a wine, Exubera, with peculiar characteristics.

Farchioni was the protagonist at Vinitaly

Farchioni, a centuries-old family history

«Our family – he says Giampaolo Farchioni – arrived in Umbria in 1780 from Austria. At the time, we were into falcon hunting. After that, we started working in local coal mines. With the exhaustion of the mines at the end of the 19th century, we concentrated on what the Umbrian territory could offer us: grapes, wheat and olives. We started transforming grapes into wine, wheat into flour and olives into oil. The mill was always the same, but the final product changed depending on the time of year.”

Lands of the Custodya Sagrantino that winks (also) at women

In a context like Vinitaly, a focus on the brand’s wines could not be missing Lands of the Custody and on Exubera in particular: «It is a pure Sagrantino, the most expressive wine from Umbria with a great tannic power that we are committed to taming. While traveling on those notes, we decided to do something less vertical and more horizontal to allow people to get to know us and also to make it more pleasant, even for a female audience».

Farchioni, the oil that «moves the soul»

«For us – Giampaolo said again – oil is a special product which, also due to the immediacy of the product, moves the soul. Its production is much more immediate than wine: it only takes an hour and a half to transform the olives into extra virgin oil. We have four production areas: Puglia, Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Each area offers a unique oil with distinctive characteristics.”

Farchioni, the latest idea: beer

Every difficulty hides an opportunity and so Farchioni also landed in the world of beer: «Having an important agricultural company there was the cereal part which also included barley. In the last twenty years, however, barley, which we have been cultivating for some time, has suffered a profitability crisis. We wanted to enhance our land and biodiversity, so we decided to start producing craft beer. With Mastri Birrai Umbri we have created three beers: a blonde one with spelled, a red one with grass peas and a dark one with lentil. All three are linked to the territory and have received great appreciation from the public.”
