BRUSSELS – Gas and electricity bills will fall again in the second half of 2023, after the peak recorded in 2022 driven by Russia’s war in Ukraine. It certifies it Eurostatrecording in the second half of 2023, a decline in the average prices of electricity for domestic use (28.5 euros for 100 kWh) compared to the first half of the year (29.4 euros per 100 kWh). However, there is a slight increase compared to the second half of 2022 (28.4 euros per 100 kWh).

The EU statistics office notes that electricity prices in the second half of last year were highest in Germany, Ireland, Belgium and Denmark. Then follow Cyprus and Italy. As for gas, in the same period prices decreased (11.3 euros per 100 kWh) compared to the first half of 2023 (11.9 euros per 100 kWh) and the second half of 2022 (11.4 euros per 100 kWh ). The prices were taller in Sweden, Ireland and the Netherlands, Austria, followed by Lithuania, Portugal and Italy and the lowest in Hungary, Croatia and Romania.

Eurostat highlights that the “reduction in energy, supply and network costs, which began as early as the first half of 2023, has continued its downward path” and for non-domestic consumers this decrease is more pronounced.
