F2 | Barcelona Test 2024, day-2

The second day of the 2024 F2 in-season tests in Barcelona showed the great potential of the new car created by Dallara.

The weather was kind to drivers and teams on the second day of 2024 F2 testing in Barcelona. Indeed, the times obtained on the first day, conditioned by rain, were pulverized.

The most active phase of the day was undoubtedly the central one in the morning session. Miyata returns (Rodin) parks his car in the last sector, between turns 10 and 11, and causes the first Red flag of the day. The session, however, resumes immediately and several drivers take to the track with Soft tires to perform qualification simulations.

The two Campos drivers liven up the situation. Isack Hadjar he is in fact the first driver to go below the 1:24 mark, precisely in 1:23.881. It does even better Pepe Martiwho lowers the time of his teammate by 2 tenths, printing the time of 1:23.681. This will remain the reference until the end of the day.

The two standard bearers of the Spanish team are thinking about separating them Victor Martins And Dennis Hauger (MP), authors of the second and third half respectively. The Frenchman from ART also emerges as the workaholic of the day, breaking the wall of 100 laps104 to be precise.

The afternoon session is stopped after just 10 minutes, with Franco Colapinto (MP) which stops in the second sector and causes exposure of the second red flag. The turn comes alive only in the final stages, when the two standard bearers of the Rodin they decide to fit Soft compound tyres.

Miyata returns place the best time in 1:24.878separating his championship-leading teammate, Zane Maloney, by 2 tenths. It fits between the two Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta), who does a few thousandths better than the Barbadian driver. However, the afternoon times remain more than a second apart from those in the morning.

On day 2 of the in-season tests in Barcelona there was therefore a taste of the potential of the Dallara F2 2024. On a circuit packed with long, fast corners, the new cars with three-dimensional surfaces made in Varano de’ Melegari found their match.

Suffice it to say that the time achieved by Martì is lower by almost three tenths compared to the best lap set in the 2023 tests, when Theo Pourchaire stopped the clock at 1:23.943. Therefore, the new single-seaters, in their first year of life, are already capable of going below the times of the previous generation.

And another day of testing is available in which we can further lower the references. The 1:23.546, with which Oliver Bearman took pole position in 2023, seems truly within reach. Thursday 25 April are scheduled last 6 hours of rehearsals of this three days.
