Oppido Lucano received help in vain and died instantly after falling from over 2 meters in height. 57-year-old worker falls from scaffolding, area seized: investigation to shed light on the tragedy

Another tragedy at work in Basilicata: a 57-year-old worker, Donato De Luca, died in Oppido Lucano, in via Roma, following a fall from a height of approximately 3 meters from the scaffolding of the construction site set up for the construction of a new church. It cannot be ruled out that the cause of the loss of balance could be attributed to an illness even if on the basis of an initial reconstruction, the local worker could probably have been hit by a sheet of metal moved by the wind. For De Luca, the timely medical aid that rushed to the scene after a request for help from those present with an emergency call was useless. The health workers of 118 “Basilicata Rescue” intervened at the site of the tragedy but unfortunately they could not do anything other than confirm the man’s death, which occurred practically instantly. Furthermore, the Carabinieri from the Oppido Lucano station and the Acerenza company intervened on site to carry out the necessary investigations and checks. In fact, an investigation was launched into the tragedy and the area was seized. Initial checks revealed no irregularities in the employment contract of the worker employed by the subcontractor company responsible for laying the bricks of the church’s attic. But from paper to reality, some crucial details still need to be understood both, for example, regarding the provision or otherwise of the workers active on the scaffolding being attached to support structures, and in relation, where the hypothesis is confirmed, to the failure to fix the sheet metal .
