An intervention that reassured European countries about the gas costs for the theft. The EU President spoke at the last Plenary explaining the current situation on prices.

“Dear colleagues, we have been through hell and high water. But in many ways we have emerged stronger than five years ago. In 2020 many predicted mass unemployment in Europe and a long recession. It didn’t happen. On the contrary, we have more people at work today than at any other time in European history. Unemployment is at historic lows, below 6%. Occupancy is at an all-time high, over 75%. And inflation is now close to our target of 2%.”

“Energy costs – he underlined – continue to impact our competitiveness. The International Energy Agency tells us there may be some relief in sight. Last year, during the energy crisis, many investments were made. A big wave of new LNG (liquefied natural gas) export projects is coming to market. And we could soon go from a global LNG shortage to an LNG abundance. As a result, we expect gas prices to decline.”
