It was 1924 when the small community of Magorno, a hamlet of Montesano sulla Marcellana, saw the establishment of a small chapel where the faithful could gather in prayer. A chapel that was dedicated to Sant’Espedito Martire whose cult is linked to the martyrdom of Militene which, it is said, occurred in the third century and it is hypothesized that it was on April 19th when all the martyrs of the Hermogenes group were celebrated. A community that has therefore found itself, starting from 1924 in the figure of the Martyr whose name has the meaning “free from hindrance” and from the Greek “he who is ingenious”.

Two characteristics which, as highlighted in his speech by Mayor Giuseppe Rinaldi, well describe the community of Magorno which, although isolated compared to the more central locations of Montesano, is nevertheless an integral part of it. A fraction made up of people who, as reiterated by the mayor, are well linked in their work to the Greek meaning of the name of Espedito, i.e. ingenious, adding the term industrious. In his speech Rinaldi underlined the value of feeling part of the community of Magorno and, more generally of Montesano, which is linked to the value of humility

A festive evening in which many participated, despite the cold, and which was characterized not only by the unveiling of a marble plaque in memory of the 100 years of the construction of the small Chapel of Sant’Espedito in Magorno, but also as a moment to give special thanks to those who are part of the community. The Rinaldi administration, in fact, wanted to pay homage to the Parish Priest Don Mimì Tropiano with plaques of thanks for his constant closeness to the community and to individual citizens, and also to two deceased people who, during their lives, always put their being the community and the faith i.e. Nicola Pascale and Vincenzo Pepe.

A plaque of thanks was also given to the Bishop of the Diocese of Teggiano Policastro, Father Antonio De Luca who did not want to miss the appointment to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the small chapel serving the equally small but united community of Magorno.
