The regulation is this. You can’t not accept it, but you can discuss it. And that’s what the Lokomotive amateur team from Cavriglia did, participating in the Uisp championship in Arezzo and victim of an atrocious prank last night. It was the Valdarno company itself that recounted the facts in a long post on social media which, as often happens in these cases, generated many reactions. This Thursday, the return match of the quarter-finals of the Edo Gori Cup, which involves many amateur teams in the Arezzo area, was played at the Fratini stadium in Faella. In front of the premises and the Lokomotive. In the first leg the Cavrigliesi yellow-blues had won 2-1. The first half ends at 0-0. In the second half the guests scored two goals and it was therefore 2-0. Qualification now in the safe, but when there are twelve minutes left until the end of the match the unthinkable happens. A blackout cuts off electricity to the stadium, we are left in the dark and go to the changing rooms. The light doesn’t come back on, game suspended, shower and home. The race will be restarted. But we will not start again from 2-0 for Lokomotive, but from 0-0. We will not start again from the 68th minute (Uisp matches last 80 minutes), but from the starting whistle. An absurdity? Yes, but there is nothing illegal about it. The regulation says this.
However, it is easy to imagine the discouragement and even anger of the Lokomotive boys. “We have a regulation that, potentially, can make all the teams finish on equal terms: 11 wins out of 11 home games, 11 defeats out of 11 away games – joked the yellow-blue team – We joke about it and we even laugh about it a bit, but with very gritted teeth because we are spinning…We had deservedly won, against a strong opponent, in a difficult year. We would have played in the semi-final of the Edo Gori Cup, a goal we have never achieved and which very few people from Valdarno can boast. We are victims of an absurd, senseless regulation, which starts a match from the beginning even when the second half has started, or rather, when the match is almost over. When we play again, what will happen if we lose? With what incentive will our boys go to play a match they have already won? We will decide whether to participate in the return match or not and, more generally, whether we still want to be subject to similar regulations, which sound like an abomination for people who love this sport”, concluded Lokomotive bitterly.
