“Last night’s fire on the construction site of the “Amatucci” school profoundly shocked the Mercogliano community and the municipal administration, to which we express our closeness and solidarity. The matter, now under investigation by the relevant authorities, caused extensive damage to the two mechanical vehicles and the school building.” This is what we read in a note from Ance Avellino and trade unions.
“Confident in the activities that the police are carrying out in these hours – continues the document – we feel the need to reiterate the importance of monitoring the territory and, in particular, the construction sites, through control and prevention activities along the entire production chain, essential to try, in synergy with timely investigative activities, to nip any form of crime in the bud.
As a trade union and as an employers’ association representing the construction industry, we cannot help but express indignation and repugnance for intolerable acts that harm the school, the community concerned and the entire province, also putting the continuation of the work at risk.
We strongly ask that, at the Prefecture of Avellino, an observatory on public works be established with operational powers over the sector and a permanent institutional table with trade union, employer and institutional actors, with social security, insurance and bilateral bodies in the construction sector and with the law enforcement agencies to monitor both economic and labor flows. To ensure compliance with legality and the principles of safety and prevention in the workplace, we also believe it is appropriate to define a specific protocol with the contracting authorities.
To monitor the entire production chain, the intervention of all sector bodies becomes essential. In this direction, the Prefecture of Avellino is now called to convene the social partners and ANCE for an initial discussion on the need to constantly monitor the territory.
Ance Avellino and the construction unions are ready to collaborate fully also with the community of Mercogliano and with the municipal administration, to which we address a message of strong support and closeness”.
