doctor and ambulance absent, 400 euro fine

What has been reconstructed since Sports Judge of the FIGC – Tuscan Amateur Leaguebased on the referee’s report of the Lanciotto-Castelfiorentino United matchin which Mattia Giani he suffered the illness that the victim indicates the sequence of events and the dynamics that – according to what the race director wrote – followed one another in those excited moments.

There Prosecutor’s Office of Florence investigates, at the moment there are no suspects in the manslaughter case opened following the tragic death of the young footballer on Sunday 14 April. Two days later, after the report to the media, on 16 April, in the offices of the Carabinieri Company of San Miniato it was heard Sandro Giani, Mattia’s father: the report is the first act of the investigation to which is added what emerged from the report. The autopsy will begin today.

The autopsy to clarify the causes of Mattia Giani’s death

There Prosecutor’s Office of Florence asked, by commissioning the medical examiner for the autopsy, to investigate and ascertain the real causes of the death of Matthias: today, Friday 19 April, the autopsy examination on the 26-year-old’s body will begin. The family Giani will appoint its legal medical consultant.

Prosecutor Giuseppe Ledda ordered the acquisition of the defibrillator, medical records and sports medical certificates. Meanwhile, from referee’s report – which we will give you an account in detail – it emerges that the first ambulance at the Campi Bisenzio stadium it arrived 17 minutes later from the moment in which help began for the player.

The reconstruction of the drama

As can be seen from the text, which we report, of press release CU 74 of 18-04-2024the connection between the events that arose from the sudden illness suffered in the 14th minute by Mattia Giani on the pitch, during the match in Campi Bisenzio between Lancelot and Castelfiorentino United.

“The Sports Judge, given that from the referee’s report and the attached supplementary note relating to the match in the epigraph, it emerged that the match was suspended in the 14th minute of the match due to a serious episode which occurred to the ASD Castelfiorentino United player, Giani Mattia, who he collapsed to the ground due to an illness; that in the circumstance the footballer was helped by the guest masseur and by a doctor present in the stands who intervened with cardiac massage and the use of the defibrillator present in the changing rooms; that a first ambulance arrived after 17 minutes and continued the rescue maneuvers assisted by other volunteers who arrived a few minutes later with another ambulance; that the doctors did their utmost in resuscitation attempts and then provided for the urgent accompaniment of the player to the emergency room of the nearest hospital; that the serious event had caused a general discouragement of all the members of the two teams (manifested with a joint written declaration) and of the match director himself and that therefore there had no longer been the conditions to continue the match which was suspended on the result of the 0-0 moment”.

From what we learn, and which was reported by the referee who witnessed what happened with the family members and everyone present that Sunday, it was the masseur and a doctor who came down from the stands.

Furthermore, as underlined in the text, the defibrillator was used by them, but that the first ambulance – without a doctor – she arrived at the camp after 17 minutes. On the second ambulance, which arrived later, the doctor would also have been present – among the medics.

Fine to Lancelot

Furthermore, the text of the statement sanctions the club that played at home that Sunday, also clarifying the issue raised by Giani’s father, namely the lack of a doctor or an ambulance.

“SOCIETY’
FINE
Euro 400.00 LAUNCH CAMPI VSD
Due to lack of ambulance and/or doctor. (III General provisions – Point 9 on Official Com. n.1 of the LND of 1.07.2023). Sanction commensurate with the omitted service, taking into account the fact that occurred”.

A version which, for this specific aspect, coincides with what was stated by Sandro Giani and which he reiterated to the police, from what was reported by Corriere della Sera, immediately after his statements.

According to the FIGC regulations — for matches such as Lanciotto-Castelfiorentino — it is mandatory defibrillator it’s a doctor if there is no ambulance. A rule introduced after the death of the footballer Piermario Morosini.

Mancini’s dedication to Mattia Giani

Sandro Giani and his wife DeborahGrandpa Loriano were present at the stadium, to support Mattia and celebrate his return after an injury: it had to be a Sunday similar to many others for the family that followed Mattia and his brother Elijahwho militates in Legnago Salus in Serie C.

The family Giani he lives in Ponte a Egola: his father has a business that he runs while his boys have dedicated themselves to football.

Mattia and Elia Giani are linked by a family bond to the Roma footballer, Gianluca Manciniand his wife Elisa. The goal dedicated last night against Milan is a concrete gesture to keep the media’s attention high on Mattia, on his death and on the lack of respect for a rule that, perhaps, could save other lives.

The illness: cardiac arrest on the pitch

Sandro Giani had provided very specific, timely elements which the report confirms with regards to the doctor, defibrillator and ambulance: “I only know that the doctor wasn’t there on that field. And that the first 118 ambulance arrived without a doctor after 15 minutes. And that in the meantime the masseur of the Castelfiorentino tried to resuscitate my son and then a spectator who works as a nurse came down from the stands to help. The defibrillator was there but was only used by the doctor transported by the second ambulance. Can one die like this?”.

A question whose only answer can and must be no, you can’t die like this after mourning for Piermario Morosiniafter what happened to Christian Eriksen, who received a miracle, and other players. Once the investigation has been opened, the Prosecutor’s Office will have to establish whether there has been any responsibility. A despondency that puts everyone, no one excluded, before the question – which will perhaps find no answer – what fate would have befallen Mattia Gianiif the doctor or ambulance had been there, where they should have been.

Meanwhile, today, the autopsy examination will begin to ascertain the causes of death and other useful elements for the investigation launched after the illness that tore Mattia away from his family and his partner.
